The 2013 Toyota Camry ranks 8 out of 19 Affordable Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 15 published reviews and test drives of the Toyota Camry, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

Auto critics predict the 2013 Toyota Camry will remain a top seller in its class thanks to its high reliability rating, excellent fuel economy and mass-market appeal.

The Toyota Camry has a standard four-cylinder engine and optional V6, both of which are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Test drivers are happy with the Camry’s strong engine power and say the transmission shifts smoothly. Although it’s not the sportiest car in the class, most critics say the Camry delivers a respectable ride that’s comfortable over rough pavement. Some note that the Camry’s power steering is vague, though. Fuel economy, at 25/35 mpg city/highway with the four-cylinder engine, is very good for the class.

Reviewers say the 2013 Camry has comfortable, spacious seats and a big trunk. Many critics like the Camry’s upscale materials and good craftsmanship, though a few say some materials fall short for the class, like the faux wood trim and the seat material on the base model. The Camry has more airbags than most rivals, with 10 standard. Other safety features, like available blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert, are also not found on many competitors. On the other hand, the standard tech features on the 2013 Camry are sparse, and include a USB port and auxiliary jack. Many other affordable midsize cars, like the 2013 Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima, come standard with Bluetooth, for example. The Accord even comes standard with a rearview camera. Upgrading to a higher trim or adding optional features on the Camry gets you things like Bluetooth, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, 10-speaker JBL audio system and Entune infotainment system, which includes satellite radio, HD Radio, Bing and Pandora Internet radio.
