Lekki-Epe Expressway: LCC To Begin Toll Collection 18 December

The Lekki Concession Company, LCC, has fixed 18 December for the beginning of toll collection on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
Governor Babatunde Fashola had during his budget presentation directed the company to announce a date to begin collection of toll on the expressway.
Fashola said this was necessary because the state had paid N4 billion as toll on the road to the company in the last one year.
Managing Director of LCC, Mr. Opuiyo Oforiokuma announced yesterday  during a tour of facilities in Lekki that the company would begin collection of toll on the expressway as from 18 December, 2011.
He said the toll collection would commence on the first toll gate located at Admiralty Bus Stop, Victoria Island, while toll collection at the other two points would commence later after alternative routes would have been provided for residents of the area.
The LCC boss said the delay in the collection of toll on the expressway was caused by the need for the company to provide alternative routes for residents of the area who did not want to pay the toll.
Oforiokuma stated that the company would recoup its investment over a period of 30 years.
Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Aderemi Ibirogba, who spoke during the tour, denied that the delay in tolling was political.
